Rama Recreation

Funding provided by the Government of Ontario and the Ontario Trillium Foundation to support this year’s recreation programs and MASK operations. Miigwech!

Rama First Nation offers a wide range of programs and services designed to meet the needs of our diverse population.

Our annual statistics show that we have more than doubled participation in the past five years. We have been successful in generating significant volunteerism in the community with over fifty approved helpers coming out weekly to assist the Recreation department in running or instructing programs. These are significant areas of achievement for our Recreation program that we will continue to foster.

Our main objective in Recreation is to promote community, family, health and wellness. Our goal is to provide creative, fun, innovative programming for the community and to offer a wide variety of  programs to expose our community to new and different things.

We also oversee a large number of community/family events: National Aboriginal Day Celebrations, Children’s Halloween Party and the  Annual Children’s Christmas Party. In addition, we offer daily programs such as our After School Program, a Summer Camp Program (in partnership with our Early Childhood Education (ECE) program) and weekly programming such as our Girls & Boys Club, Adult Recreational Volleyball, Floor Hockey, Golf League, Reading Group, Saturday Family Trips, Youth Night, Tiny Tykes and Little Native Hockey League Hockey Program.  All of these programs have seen tremendous participation and seem to be growing each and every season.

We strive to include new programming each season. Examples of these include Dog Obedience, Gardening, Tyke/Novice Basketball or Lacrosse, Babysitting, Home Alone Program, Photography, Gymnastics, Swimming, Therapeutic Equestrian Lessons, Equestrian and more.

We also believe that the best way to offer programming is through collaboration. We have been working closely with ECE for our Summer Camp and School Age Programs which has led to increased registration, significant increases from when they ran separately. We also work very closely with our Culture department and Rama Public Library to strengthen our programs. We are very grateful for their assistance and teachings.
